Dickensian Christmas Market and Light Switch On

Driffield Town Council are delighted to announce their annual Christmas lights switch on event will take place on 1 December 2023 at 19.00.

We have many activities planned with a required road closure in place from 12.00 to 22.00. This road closure will extend from Queen Street to Cranwell Road, Market Place roundabout along Mill Street to Westgate, and Middle Street South roundabout along George Street to Union Street.

The approximate timetable for the afternoon and evening, that will be hosted by Great Driffield Radio is as follows:

12.00 Road closure starts

13.00 Market starts trading

16.00 Makara Morris Dancing under the Plaza of Light

16.00 Father Christmas arrives in his Grotto to meet the children at 43 Market Place

16.30 Great Driffield Radio

17.00 Driffield Ukulele Band under the Plaza of Light

17.30 Great Driffield Radio

18.00 All For One Choir under the Plaza of Light

18.50 Mayor interview and Father Christmas

19.00 Christmas lights switch on

19.00 Father Christmas leaves his Grotto to return to Lapland

As in previous years, we will also be having a small funfair on George Street extending into Middle Street South. In addition, facepainting by Fun Packed Parties will be provided.

During the evening, please keep an eye out for Mrs Fuzziwig, Mr Figgy Pudding, Scrooge and the Ghost of Jacob Marley who will be moving around the town centre!
