Vacancies

In pursuance of the Representation of the Peoples Act 1985 s21(2)(a) the vacancies can be filled by co-option. If you would like to be considered to be a town Councillor, please write a letter of interest outlining the reasons why you would make a valuable addition to Driffield Town Council and send it to: townclerk@driffieldtowncouncil.gov.uk or by hand to the office at Driffield Town Council, 2-4 Market Walk, Driffield, YO25 6BW

Applications to be considered MUST be with the Driffield Town Council by 12 noon on 21 August 2026.

Co-option will be decided at the Full Council meeting on 1 September 2026 at 7pm.

To be a councillor you must fulfil the following criteria on the day of nomination:

  • A: over 18 years old
  • B: a UK, EU or Commonwealth Citizen

and at least one of the following:

  • A: registered to vote in the locality
  • B: living or working in the area for one year, or within 4.8 km of the town boundary
  • C: principal or only place of work during the preceding 12 months has been in the locality

You cannot be a councillor if:

  • A: you work for the Town Council
  • B: you are bankrupt
  • C: you have served a prison sentence (including suspended sentences) of three months or more within the last five years
  • D: you have been disqualified under legislation relating to illegal or corrupt practices
