Driffield Town Council Projects
In addition to the day-to-day services provided by Driffield Town Council, here is a sample of some of the innovative projects we have delivered.

Umbrella Plaza
Developed in partnership with our Town Centre Steering Group (comprising many independent high street businesses) and supported by ERYC Local Growth Fund, in the summer of 2021, Umbrella Plaza brought a splash of colour to Market Place and created a great atmosphere for people to meet and socialise. The umbrellas continue to be a popular feature each summer.

Plaza of Light
The canopy of lights was introduced in winter 2021 and was designed to brighten up the Market Place during the short, dark days and complement the Christmas light displays. We think they’re a huge success.

Middle St. North Mural
A mural was designed and installed on Middle Street North in summer 2021, featuring some familiar town centre business owners or workers. It brightens up the area whilst construction work continues on the site of the old Post Office buildings. Developed by the Driffield Town Centre Steering Group, the panels represent 3 shopping areas in the town. In addition to adding a splash of colour, they promote the range of different independent businesses available on the high street.

Wold Rangers Way
Driffield Town Council supported this new 43-mile circular trail, which starts and finishes in Market Place. In addition to the main route, there are several shorter walks or ‘Trods’ ranging from 3 miles to 22 miles. Launched in 2021, the Wold Rangers Way is an independent registered charity that works to promote walking in the Driffield and across the Wolds.

Discover Driffield Loyalty Card
Following the success of our Gift Voucher, in conjunction with the Driffield Town Centre Steering Group (comprising many local independent businesses), we designed and created a unique Loyalty Card. The Loyalty Card is available free of charge and, when used in one of Driffield’s participating shops, allows the user entry into a monthly prize draw to win a bundle of shopping vouchers and other prizes.

Discover Driffield Gift Voucher
We worked with the Town Centre Steering Group (comprising many independent shops and businesses) to devise a unique Gift Voucher scheme. In the run-up to Christmas 2020, we sold over £10,000 of gift vouchers which could be redeemed in over 90 local shops and businesses. The scheme continues to be popular, with Vouchers always available to purchase for occasions such as Father’s Day, Mother’s Day and Birthdays.

Market Place Furniture
During 2021, new planters were added to Marketplace, and the benches were refurbished and arranged in a new layout to make a pleasant space to rest or have a spot of lunch. The benches and planters were built or refurbished in our own workshop by our Tidy Team using locally sourced materials.

Driffield & Wolds Create Community
The projects will focus on the provision of recreation and leisure and encompass the wide-ranging breadth that these areas can potentially cover, from the arts and sport to social and environmental activities.
Driffield & Wolds Create Community hope their projects will appeal to and enrich the lives of all, irrespective of age, ability, social, health and economic circumstances.
DWCC hold craft, bingo and film sessions every other Monday. These are predominantly for those who are isolated, lonely or struggle to get out; however, if spaces allow, it is then opened to the public.

The Pinfold
In the spring of 2021, after months of preparation, the Pinfold on Windmill Hill was transformed from an overgrown, derelict site into a lovely, calm space for people on the north side of town to enjoy. All furniture was refurbished by our Tidy Team – they even completed the fantastic planting.

Men In Sheds
Driffield Men in Sheds has been running for four years and has become an ideal meeting place for active retired people who like to learn new skills and perhaps brush up on some older skills too, in a friendly and safe environment. Whether it is woodworking, metalwork, mending an old lawn mower or getting a bicycle ready for the good weather ahead, we have all the facilities and help and advice is on hand. Electronics are equally well catered for, with full PAT testing and computer-aided design and construction available on site. Gardeners are always welcome at our allotment sites.
The most important thing is that it is a place where people can come together, make new friendships and benefit from new relationships. Our teapot is always warm and welcoming!

Town Centre Defibrillator
In July of 2020, we investigated the idea of installing a defibrillator in the town centre after discovering the existing ones were not available 24 hours a day. We approached a local First Aid training provider (FABtraining) to discuss the possibility of obtaining a community defibrillator. It was subsequently installed in the town centre on the Library building, making it easily accessible for everyone.
In the first year since going live on the Yorkshire Ambulance Service accessible database, this defibrillator has had the cabinet code issued 3 times following an emergency call.
